'Contact' EP – Gabriel Slick, RoboCrafting Material (SBA #001)

The inaugural release on the new See Blue Audio imprint comes from Gabriel Slick, RoboCrafting Material in the form of the four-track ‘Contact’ EP. Based in Iași in Romania, Gabriel Slick has established himself as a formidable producer of atmospheric tech house and techno on the deeper side with releases on labels like Purple Sun, SLiCK, Crossworld and RoboCrafting Music.

RoboCrafting Material is Gabriel's alias for more experimental and ambient electronica where futuristic soundscapes draw on influences from a wide spectrum of music. Sounds from distant space juxtapose with primordial rhythms and natural elements to create sonic messages from other worlds.

The title track opens the ‘Contact’ EP and follows the See Blue Audio principle that every release should include at least one beatless track or remix. Delicate sounds float on a bed of cosmic electronic waves, while the very atoms gently fizz underneath.

‘Far Away from Earth’ deepens the mood with oscillating synths capturing the sensation of drifting through darkness but held in place by the off-kilter beats. ‘Our Nature’, by contrast, has a pulse-like bassline, spacey synths and a swaying groove, while electronic musical chatter flitters above.

‘Pluto’ closes the ‘Contact’ EP with a sense of urgency to its Afrobeat-flavoured rhythms and clouds of sonic haze. Like an invocation to a higher power, it’s the most physical of all the tracks but still shrouded in mystery, as it is with Pluto itself so far from the Earth’s gaze.
